Smart Trim removes silence by suggesting cuts on the timeline. Transcribe first and it also catches filler words, repeats and retakes.

Pick Conservative, Balanced or Aggressive to cut pauses longer than 1.5 s, 0.8 s or 0.5 s.

With a transcript, Smart Trim can also flag hesitations like "um", repeated words and restarted sentences.

Non-destructive
Suggested cuts are trim regions on the timeline. Delete the ones you disagree with or drag their edges. The original file stays untouched.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Does Smart Trim cut words or only silence?
On its own it only finds pauses. Once the recording has a transcript, you can also turn on filler words, verbal tics, repeated words and retakes, each with its own toggle.
Can I undo Smart Trim?
Yes. Its cuts are ordinary trim regions. Delete them, resize them or press ⌘Z.
Does Smart Trim work with music or system audio?
You choose which audio it analyzes: screen, mic or both. Music playing during a pause can stop that section from reading as silent, so analyzing the mic alone often works better.
